Dog Box
Now you have to admit you only came here to find out what a dog box is.
My friend Kim Jordan has
a show dog named Penguin. She takes the dog to shows, and therefore must
bring along a lot of leashes, brushes, salves, balms, ointments, and
powders to aid in anthropomorphizing the dog. All of these things must be
carried, and to aid in this mighty task, she needed a box about 20" x 20" x 9"
with small shelves and drawers. She had one box, but it was bestruck by
disaster, so she approached me to build another.
I built a new box with a poplar body and 1/4" oak as the front and back
panels, and reused the handle and drawers from the original box. I made my
first attempt at box joints on this project, using a table saw, scroll saw,
and router. I replaced the brass corner reinforcements since a few on the
old box were in bad shape.
The custom painting that was on the old box had survived, so I cut it out
and attached it to the front panel of the new box, with a basswood trim
around it.
