Candy Box

This is a pair of small candy boxes I made for Tania Bikerman for the holiday season December 2000. It was my first experiment with using multiple species of wood. The lids are both two squares of maple and two squares of poplar, surrounded by red oak. The bodies are red oak with a poplar trim line. The maple squares in the lid are 1/4" thicker than the poplar squares, and the groove in the lip of the bodies have a matching pair of high spots and low spots, so that the lid only fits in flush in two of the four positions it can be inserted. The slots at the top of the base allow fingers to grip the lid, since it fits flush.
