Computer Vision
Name three applications of Computer Vision you can recognize on your phone
Three applications of Computer Vision I can recognize on my phone are facial recognition when using Face ID, sorting photos by faces when looking at photo albums, and QR code scanning when pointing the camera at a QR code.
Take a photo of your desk and ask ChatGPT to identify or name all the objects
- How many steps are involved in this identification process?
- There were four steps involved in this process, as ChatGPT first scans the image for all the items, and then it examines and identifies the larger objects. Then, it examines and identifies the smaller objects, and finally, puts them into categories of large and small accessories on the desk.
- Can you identify any challenges for ChatGPT?
- Some challenges ChatGPT had when identifying objects on my desk were that some objects were only partially seen in the image, so it could not accurately identify said objects. Additionally, since I took the image from a top-down view, it had challenges identifying objects that stood vertically.
- Ask ChatGPT to highlight or circle a specific item on your desk. Describe the results and possible challenges.
- When asking ChatGPT to highlight/circled the earphones on my desk, it instead circled the black charger connected to my laptop. The possible challenges that led to this issue is the shape of the earphones were very similar to the charger's shape, which may have led to ChatGPT circling the wrong part of the image.
Several applications involve decision-making processes that rely on Computer Vision. Name some applications that you believe are not trustworthy or safe.
Some applications where I believe computer vision is not trustworthy or safe is self-driving cars, criminal recognition, and automatic weapon systems. Self-driving cars could have limitations or errors that risk the driver or pedestrians' lives, criminal recognition could lead to false recognition and false imprisonment, and automatic weapon systems could misidentify individuals, leading to the loss of innocent lives.
