I would describe Artificial Intelligence, or AI, to be a collection of algorithms and systems that can complete tasks that previously required human knowledge. This could be learning, predicting, etc.
The reason AI is experiencing such an immense growth even after existing for 70 years is because of the technological advancements in deep learning. Through the massive data sets that are available to feed into AIs, the possibilities, such as image recognition, have been opened up. With these advancements in AI learning, the growth of AI has increased exponentially.
Three domains where current AI models face challenges are ethical issues, bias, and data privacy/security. AI faces various ethical issues such as the discussion of certain topics and information, and it faces bias through pertaining bias in its vast datasets. Additionally, it also faces challenges in privacy/security, as it requires datasets to learn, which said datasets could include sensitive or private data.
Three application sectors where robots are widely used are manufacturing, agriculture, and healthcare. Robots in these sectors allow for greater accuracy and less time when placing tiny components, agricultural practices become more sanitary and tedious tasks such as packaging and sorting are trivialized, and many healthcare systems become automated and allow greater precision when performing certain medical tasks.
The convergence of Artificial General Intelligence and fully autonomous robotics is much closer than it ever has been before, yet I believe there is still quite some time before we fully achieve AGI and fully autonomous robotics. When we do achieve these milestones, it will have a massive impact on the world, as it could fully shape our industries and pave the way to a frontier never seen before.
