Scouting Report
- Kevin is an offensively-talented defenseman with tremendous size. He was
acquired by the Pens for two reasons. First, it is expected that he will play
the point on the Pittsburgh Power Play. He has an incredibly hard, accurate
shot and is not afraid to unleash it. Zubov's unwillingness to shoot led to
his trade for Kevin in the offseason. Second, the Pens want Kevin to use his
size on defense to play physical and cut down on shots on goal. Hatcher has
often been criticized for his unwillingness to hit, but he claims that he is
not afraid to use it, but has been handcuffed by the systems he has played in.
One thing is for sure, he will be more of a presence on the ice than Zubov and
his career numbers show that he is, indeed, willing to put the puck on the net.
Hopefully, Kevin can fulfill the Penguins expectations in the future. Let's
sit back and see.
