SAE Mini-Baja

What is Mini-Baja?
Mini Baja® consists of three regional competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain and even at times, the challenge of water. All vehicles are powered by a ten-horsepower Intek Model 20 engine donated by Briggs & Stratton Corporation. For over twenty-five years, the generosity of Briggs & Stratton has enabled SAE to provide each team with a dependable engine free of charge. Use of the same engine by all the teams creates a more challenging engineering design test.

Carnegie Mellon Racing Team
Carnegie Mellon's Mini Baja team has been in existence for many years, including many successful ones in the nineties. The team hopes to rejoin the competition next year after a 2 year absence, applying knowledge and experience gained from Formula, with a completely innovative and redesigned vehicle.

Past Years

2002
2002 was our first year competing nationally with Mini Baja. We have had a vehicle for a number of years, but had waited until 2002 to compete.
