CMU Psychology Guide for the Grad Student

Sponsored by: PsyCokeTM

So, you want to be a graduate student? Not only that, you want to be a graduate student in the Psychology Department at Carnegie Mellon University. Good Luck!

Actually, you've probably made a pretty good choice. The program here is pretty informal, which is nice. A potential downfall to the non-chalant atmosphere is that no one's going to walk you through the first two years to make sure you know what's going on. But that's ok. You see, that's why this guide is here. Hopefully the information presented here will help to ease your transition to graduate life at CMU.

As advertised, this is a guide for incoming (and current) graduate students in the Psychology Department at Carnegie Mellon University. Any helpful information provided for others is purely accidental and will hopefully be edited out during the next revision. :) But, if you are, or are soon to be, a grad student here, please Let me know if there is anything missing or wrong in this guide.

Hopefully, the information presented here will be helpful. At the very least it will be honest (to the best of my knowledge). The user of this guide assumes all responsibilities for problems arising as a result of me screwing up.

The goal is to give you a realistic impression of what it's like adjusting and adapting to graduate school in general, and CMU in particular.
