About Us

In 1994 a Carnegie Mellon design student with film experience approached the existing campus "filmmaking club" about starting a project. The student, Robert Pietri, was surprised to learn that the filmmaking club had never actually made a film- they only talked about movies and occasionally talked about making them. Pietri, determined to make a film that year and equally determined to breathe life into the existing club, set out to change the club from a film appreciation club into an actual film making organization.

That first year, the club(consisting of around ten members) met on Saturday afternoons in the Cyert Hall atrium. "President" was just a label, and no one except Rob had any film experience. The goal was to find out what it meant to make a film; the end product was a three part "epic" entitled "A Friend in Need," which was shown during Film Fest IV.

Our Goal:

(a) To provide the Carnegie Mellon community with an opportunity to have a professional and educational filmmaking experience, and in the process, to produce film that excel both technically as well as aesthetically

(b) To showcase the quality works of the student community during the annual Student Film Festival
