Alyssa Cook, President
Part: Alto 1
Major: Chemical Engineering
Graduation: 2015
Bio: Alyssa always has a song stuck in her head, whether that be a jingle she just heard on the radio or a song she was listening to while doing her homework. It is rare to find Alyssa when she is not singing, humming, or whistling something. After singing in an all female a cappella group in high school, she loves being a part of Counterpoint! When Alyssa isn't on stage performing, she can be found working behind the scenes as a member of ABTech. Alyssa can't wait to combine her passion for music and her love of tech in her Music Technology minor!
Amanda Branson, Vice President
Part: Alto 1
Major: Vocal Performance
Graduation: 2017
Bio: Amanda is a proud Long Island girl who loves to laugh, surprise people, cook, and eat! Some of her dorky hobbies include playing flute in marching band and pit orchestra, playing soccer (the easy and non-athletic kind), and doing hair and makeup for her friends. When Amanda isn't singing<85>scratch that- Amanda is always singing and she is so excited to be a part of Counterpoint! Coincidentally, her favorite color is purple, so she knew that Counterpoint was the perfect fit for her!
Campbell Rogers, Music Director
Part: Alto 2
Major: BSA Vocal Performance and Mathematics
Graduation: 2015
Bio: Campbell loves purple and singing, which inspired her to audition for Counterpoint in her freshman fall. She's from Newton, MA and her favorite foods are oreos and ice cream. When Campbell isn't singing, which is rare, you can find her in her room either eating, procrastinating her math problem sets, or chatting with friends. She also loves to spend time outside enjoying the sunlight. She could not be happier to be a part of Counterpoint with so many amazingly talented young women!
Liana Kong, Public Relations Chair
Part: Alto 1
Major: Industrial Design
Graduation: 2015
Bio: Liana is really tiny. People call her a human-sized cat minus the cat-like features (except she's allergic to cats and prefers dogs). When's she's not fitting into small spaces, she's taking her daily nap, looking for tasty food, and singing songs she only partially remembers. She's absolutely terrible at math and loves to bake, woodwork, draw, swim in her endless closet of clothes, and play an undefined amount of tiny string instruments. Most of all, she loves being a part of of the sassy ladies Counterpoint!
Aishwarya Prem Renu, Webmaster
Part: Alto 2
Major: Electrical and Computer Engineering
Graduation: 2017
Bio: Aishwarya is from Chennai in India, and is extremely excited to be a part of Counterpoint! She is trained in Indian Classical Carnatic music, but this is her first time as a part of an A Capella group, and she's been lovin it! She spends most of her energy and time bathroom singing for the benefit of her floor mates (Maybe not so much benefit?), being lazy with friends, chatting with her parents, exercising (haha see, she's really funny too), eating, coding, and sometimes, she even manages to catch up on sleep! She loves listening to the beautiful voices of everyone in Counterpoint and is thrilled about all the music coming her way!
Rachel Abrams
Part: Soprano 1 or 2
Major: Dramaturgy
Graduation: 2015
Bio: Being accepted into Counterpoint was a dream come true for Rachel, who has been dying to sing in a collegiate a cappella group ever since she could spell a cappella. Born and raised on Long Island, NY, she has lots of classical music and musical theater credentials from high school, yadda yadda yadda... When she's not singing, Rachel is most likely playing her harp, surfing YouTube, or being a workaholic. Rachel loves tight harmonies, being a redhead (though people try to tell her she's a brunette... false), anything Disney-related, chocolate-covered strawberries, dancing (especially salsa!), telling stories, and anything purple (which is, conveniently, her favorite color). More than anything else, Rachel loves to make people smile, and she knows you will smile when you hear the lovely Counterpoint ladies sing!
Elaina Bianchini
Part: Soprano 2
Major: Vocal Performance
Graduation: 2016
Bio: Elaina loves food and singing, so Counterpoint is a perfect choice of activity for her. She's from Pittsburgh, PA and is always always always singing. I mean she's a vocal performance major and in Counterpoint. Elaina has been in choir all her life, but this is the first time she has been in a a cappella group. When she is not singing, she is either sleeping, eating food, or watching Dance Moms. She is so honored and thrilled to be a lady with the purple flair!
Katherine Kim
Part: Alto 2
Major: Undeclared (but most likely MechE or IS)
Graduation: 2016
Bio: Born and raised in the sunny side Los Angeles, CA, Kat never dreamed she would come to live in the weather we call Pittsburgh for four years of her life. She loves dancing, talking to people in five languages, playing every sport she has ever learned, sleeping (only true in the morning), her domo snuggie, and all things Korean. She's crazy aca-excited to bring her rapping or harmonizing to the world of Counterpoint! "Yeee! CP Unit!"
Samantha Kronenfeld
Part: Soprano 1
Major: Vocal Performance
Graduation: 2016
Bio: Samantha, also known as "Sam" or "Crazy Cat Lady" is from Queens, New York. She enjoys singing, playing with cats, and interior decorating. When she's not doing any of those things, you could probably find her sleeping or dead. Her favorite musical genres include classical, musical theatre, and Sara Bareilles. Samantha couldn't be more stoked to be singing with the lovely ladies of Counterpoint and for all of the fabulous music to come!
Diana Pacilio
Part: Alto 2
Major: Global Studies
Graduation: 2016
Bio: A Pittsburgh native, Diana has grown used to the cloudy weather and learned to look on the bright side of life, with maybe more than just a touch of cynicism. Diana's love of music and singing drove her to audition for Counterpoint, and ever since being accepted, she has been grateful for the friends and experiences she's had thus far in her college career. Her hobbies include aggressively enjoying various television programs, overanalyzing works of literature, failing at Spanish, and memorizing facts about world history. She has bright plans for the future, including studying abroad in a Spanish speaking country, traveling the world, and helping people in developing nations through foreign policy.
Lucy Pei
Part: Alto 2
Major: Business and Global Studies
Graduation: 2016
Bio: Lucy was named after the crazy ginger in I Love Lucy, because her Asian parents were hoping that she... would turn out just like Lucy Ricardo??? Besides pondering the mystery of her name, Lucy likes to cook noodles, drink chai, crochet creatures, scrub whales, and watch Aamir Khan movies. Freddie Mercury's fabulous voice is her favorite thing ever. He's just so fab.
Virginia Small
Part: Soprano 2
Major: Vocal Performance
Graduation: 2017
Bio: Virginia, a southern belle born in Pittsburgh and raised in Philly, is beyond excited to join Counterpoint this year! After singing in an all-girls a cappella group throughout high school, she cannot wait to sing and dance her way through the next few years with the Counterpoint crew. A true anglophile, she is obsessed with Downton Abbey, anything written by the one and only William Shakespeare, and pretty much anything with any sort of British influence at all. When not in rehearsal, she can be found locked in a practice room or downing ridiculous amounts of tea in an attempt to stay vocally healthy or translating Latin and Greek.
Mara Yaffee
Part: Soprano 2
Major: Vocal Performance
Graduation: 2017
Bio: Mara is thrilled to be a part of Counterpoint this year! Hailing from Tenafly, New Jersey, Mara loves cats, long walks on the beach, cats, doodling, cats, singing musical theatre even though she is really not supposed to because of her operatic training, cats, and other things (but mostly cats). Aside from singing, Mara composes (mostly pop-ish songs), plays bassoon, and freestyles! Her stage name is basedgoddess destroyer of worlds (bgdow). It's been real. deuces
Emma Youngblood
Part: Soprano 1
Major: Vocal Performance
Graduation: 2017
Bio: Emma is super thrilled and honored to be a member of the Counterpoint family! Born and raised in Norman, Oklahoma, Emma has always enjoyed singing and performing, whether it be on stage, in a choir, in the shower or around the house annoying her family. Although she has sung in many choirs, this is her first acapella experience. When she isn't singing, Emma loves to draw, bake, dance, and play the string bass. She also is a tv fanatic, loves to eat cookie dough, and her favorite way to spend weekends is by playing board games and watching movies with friends and family.
Leo Zubillaga
Part: Alto 1
Major: Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering
Graduation: 2017
Bio: Leo is from San Antonio, Texas but grew up in Caracas, Venezuela. She could sing before she could talk and hasn't really stopped doing either since then! She plays the viola and the guitar. Other than music, she loves science and human beings. Especially the really cute ones.
Lindsey Chinn
Part: Soprano 1
Major: Vocal Performance
Graduation: 2017
Bio: Lindsey, who has no idea why she didn't join Counterpoint last year, is thrilled to be with them now. Born and raised in East Tennessee, she loves cats, music, and food- hobbies which she seems to have in common with most of Counterpoint! In an effort to cram as much music into one day as possible, Lindsey is also involved in SAI and Scotch 'n' Soda as well as being a voice major. Looking forward to making music with the fab gals of Counterpoint!
