Who are we?

Michelle Mirabella, President

Year: 2010
Part: Soprano I, Beatbox
Major: English, Vocal Performance Minor
Bio: Michelle is a Soprano I through and through but insists that stereotypes do not apply in her situation. She is proud to be a New Yorker but is thoroughly enjoying herself in Pittsburgh at Carnegie Mellon. She spends most of her time being with friends, singing, RAing and driving a buggy-she also throws in a bit of schoolwork in the nooks and crannies of her packed schedule...

Erica Dorfman, Vice President

Year: 2009
Part: Alto I
Major: Mechanical Engineering, Music Theory
Bio:Erica got into A Cappella over 5 years ago and has been singing since she was 4. She also plays French horn in the Kiltie Band. At home, she has cats, goats, and chickens, and loves to quilt, knit, and make jewelry. It may seem like half of CMU comes from New Jersey, but she is the only one in Counterpoint, which she hopes is refreshing. She also has a twin brother (see JHU Vocal Chords.) who is teaching her to beatbox.

Leenie Mobbs, Music Director

Year: 2011
Part: Alto II
Major: Creative Writing, with a Music Composition minor
Bio: Leenie has been singing since before she could talk: it all started when her brother turned to his baby sister in the high chair and demanded that she sing something, to which she replied (in a stunning mezzo) "AAAH DOO DAAH!" We are not sure what she meant by this. But nevertheless, the AH DOO DAH song has become a standard in her repertoire since those heady days of high chair glory, and is frequently requested (Freebird style, lighters and all) by her raucous fans. In her spare time, Leenie composes other songs that utilize more than three syllables of the English language, but she maintains that less is more.

Lauren Gumbel, Publicity Head

Year: 2011
Part: Alto II
Major: Cognitive Science
Bio: Lauren, from Chicago (jump on it!), lives in the pool with the rest of the CMU Swim Team and loves her Tri Delta sisters hardcore. You can usually hear her serendaing her floor via shower concert.

Sarah Grey Hall, Treasurer

Year: 2011
Part: Soprano II
Major: History and Policy, International Relations
Bio: Sarah Grey is from Birmingham, AL (hence the double name), though she has no Southern accent to show for it. She has been a music nerd basically her entire life. She plays piano, flute, and piccolo and has been in a variety of bands, orchestras, and choirs, although Counterpoint is her first a cappella experience. In addition to music, she enjoys spending time with friends and her abnormally large family, reading, traveling, and the color pink.

Anna Olson, Webmistress

Year: 2009
Part: Alto I/II
Major: Math, Physics Minor
Bio: When not in negotiations to see whether the math or physics department gets her soul, Anna is probably sitting somewhere and knitting. Or wondering how she can go to college forever so she can major in everything, and still have time for singing, theater, dancing, art and sleep.

Julia Degeratu

Year: 2009
Part: Soprano II
Major: Economics, Statistics
Bio: Julia enjoys sleeping in her spare time (which is never). From State College, PA, Julia has been singing since she can remember and is happy to continue it at CMU. She loves the color green and Swedish Fish.

Emily Lesinski

Year: 2011
Part: Soprano I
Major: English
Bio: Originally from Alexandria, Virginia and then Newtown, PA, Emily is now residing with a bunch of other people in Pittsburgh, PA. Emily has been singing since elementary school but officially became a choir nerd in high school. She has sung all parts, except for tenor and bass, and loves to make up her own starting pitches! Emily had the privilege of going abroad with her high school choir but it looking forward to performing non-classical music with Counterpoint. She loves just hanging out and having a good time with her friends and Counterpoint people, of course!

Nora McDaniel

Year: 2009
Part: Soprano I
Majors: Mechanical Engineering, French
Bio: Nora grew up near the clouds in beautiful, breezy Boulder, CO. At the tender age of 19 she relocated to Pittsburgh, PA after having visited all of the 50 states. Nora's first major musical memory is singing a song composed mostly of thirds which served the purpose of memorizing her address. Since then she has sung in numerous choirs including two a cappella groups and also plays the flute and guitar.

Michelle Stewart

Year: 2010
Part: Soprano II
Major: Science
Bio: Michelle is part of the unusually large Colorado contingent of Counterpoint. She loves Disney movies and musicals and has really amazing shoes at all times.

Reva Street

Year: 2009
Part: Alto I/Soprano II
Major: Materials Science Engineering and Biomedical Engineering
Bio: Loves: singing!, Delta Delta Delta, scrabble, baking, Rhode Island, and reading anything but textbooks. Misses: her two Siamese kitties, her parents and sisters, and the ocean. Wishes: she could knit, CMU was in a warmer climate, and that her life was like a Jane Austen novel.

Annie Teng

Year: 2009
Part: Soprano I
Major: Design, Art, and Business Administration
Bio: Annie is from CA. Two years ago she won a prize and got to have dinner with one of her favorite singers, Vienna Teng. We do not think they are related, though their names are eerily similar.
